Dementia Care

Our secure unit provides skilled-nursing long-term care for people who have a risk of wandering and other safety concerns. This is not a “lock-down” unit; rather our unique program is provided in a secure environment designed to minimize risks of getting lost.

Our admissions criteria:

  • Have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia.
  • Ability to follow simple, one-step directions independently or with verbal or physical cueing.
  • Ability to understand the mechanism of toileting.
  • Ability to complete at least one activity of daily living (ADL) in addition to toileting, with minimal assistance (bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, ambulating or transferring, etc.)
  • Would benefit from a structured environment and special activity programs.
  • Not require frequent transfers out of the unit for diagnostic testing and treatment (e.g. dialysis).
  • No feeding tubes (NG/Peg).
  • Not be a danger to self or others. Residents may have behavioral symptoms of dementia as long as they are predictable (triggers can be identified and managed) and residents be re-directable. Risks to other residents must be anticipated.
