Hebrew Senior Care Dedicates Sonny’s Garden

August 31, 2015, West Hartford, CT- The celebration of life and love is one that touches many hearts through a multitude of sincere contributions.  When the personality and qualities of an individual affect the many lives of others, it is often important to make their tribute as vibrant as the individual was.  On Sunday, August 30, Hebrew Senior Care dedicated a garden in remembrance to Sonya (Sonny) Rodin. “Establishing Sonny’s Garden was the perfect way for our family to remember and honor Sonny’s beautiful spirit while beautifying the grounds of Hebrew Senior Care,” said her husband, Jack Rodin.  During the ceremony, Rabbi Daniel Braun-Friedman dedicated the garden for Hebrew Senior Care while Rabbi Phil Lazowski, a long-time family friend, dedicated the garden to Sonny’s memory.

Sonya Rodin was born in 1927 in Brooklyn, New York.  She graduated Tilden High School and began working in Manhattan.  She met the love of her life and life-long partner, Jack Rodin. They married in 1951.  Jack and Sonya moved to Bloomfield, Connecticut where they happily raised two sons, Rob and David, who now both reside in California.  She was very active within the local community, whether it was within the Bloomfield school system, with Meals on Wheels, or through the Sisterhood organization at Beth Hillel Synagogue.  In the time she spent as a resident at Hebrew Senior Care, those who cared for her were moved not only by her appreciation but also by her grateful family members.  Sonya’s shine added a brightness and happiness to all of the people she met.

Sonya was endearingly called Sonny by her husband, Jack, as the name portrayed her affectionate, energetic, and passionate personality.  Sonny’s Garden surrounds the patio of the Hospital at Hebrew Senior Care and is an oasis that is now available to be enjoyed by those who live, work, and visit Hebrew Senior Care.
