Resident Artwork Showcases Poignant Life Stories
Hebrew Health Care’s reputation as a top healthcare provider for older adults is fueled by innovative programs. We are proud to feature the work from two of these unique programs: The Sadie Mindell Master Painting and A Fresh Canvas: An Alzheimer’s Arts Program, in an art exhibit being held at the Promenade Gallery at The Bushnell® Center for the Performing Arts from March 1 – April 22, 2012. The exhibit is sponsored by Hoffman Auto Group.
A Fresh Canvas: An Alzheimer's Arts Program is funded by the Bella and Max Shulman Family Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation. This innovative art program provides expressive art therapy, music therapy, movement and music groups so that all our patients with dementia - even if just for a moment- can connect with their life, their loved ones and their cherished memories.
Hebrew Health Care believes passionately that these life-affirming programs are essential and we are proud to share the artwork and the stories in this powerful exhibit. Below is just one example of the program’s positive impact from a participant of A Fresh Canvas:
Abe's wife and son-in-law were there yesterday and were astonished to see the pictures that Abe has drawn of the US warship. They've been able to connect with him. No one even knew that he still thought about this time in the War. Since he can no longer talk, the art program has given him a way of expressing something they believe he needs to resolve.
We invite you to visit the exhibit at the Promenade Gallery at The Bushnell® Center for the Performing Arts from March 1 – April 22, 2012.
Hebrew Health Care will also be hosting a lecture on Dementia and the Arts on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. The lecture, supported by Farmington Bank Community Foundation, will take place at The Bushnell® Center for the Performing Arts in the Autorino Great Hall and we encourage you to register for this since seating is limited.
