Services and Support

Dementia Care Consultation: The best way to avoid a nursing home is to know what care is needed to keep someone safe in the community. That’s right – we’ll help you AVOID a nursing home. Only 5% of seniors live in nursing homes, but people with dementia are at higher risk due to safety issues and long-term stress on care partners. Care Consultation provides information on the stage of dementia and precisely which care services are needed for wellness and safety. The goal is to take the fear and uncertainty out of your daily care experience. We can reduce your stress and enhance your success as a care partner.

Special Approaches and Programs: Most human beings are actually human-DOINGS. Being alive is more than having disease symptoms managed. Through our community partnerships and donor support we have developed several unique programs to provide meaningful engagement in living life.

A Fresh Canvas: An Alzheimer’s Arts Program: Art therapy, music therapy and dance-movement therapy on our dementia special care unit and in our adult day center.

Horticultural Therapy and Jessie’s Community Gardens:Care of the environment is a natural instinct, and with our stand up gardens on our dementia unit, the sensory garden on the south side of the building and our Jessie’s Community Garden project, we enjoy the act of gardening and giving to others. Our clients and residents grow produce to make home made food, and donate extra crop to the food pantry at Jewish Family Services.

TimeSlips® Creative Storytelling: Use it or lose it was never as much fun as it is through creative storytelling. With a trained facilitator, residents and clients work together to tell the back-story behind some of the funniest photos we can find. Then they reap the pride and joy of community-created poem/story.

Laughter Therapy: Several of our staff members have been trained as Certified Laughter Leaders because we know there are psychological and physiological benefits of laughter. The advantage of humor and a lighthearted perspective is especially important with aging and health complications. Through the Good Hearted Living Program®, our clients, staff and community work on creating positive habits for lighthearted perspectives.
